On the night of December 31, 1956, before leaving Budapest for good, János Károlyi a successful actor and his wife, Viki Dékány, a ballet dancer, reminisce on the history of their relationship that had begun on a film set. After long arguments and fights, Viki is ready to leave for Austria, whereas János chooses to stay in Budapest. Finally, János decides for both of them.
